Julia gets a lesson in tracking black rhinos from our guide Benny. An important tip is to see what way the wind is blowing by grabbing a handful of dust and seeing in which direction it falls. Then you know in what direction you should run if it charges you!
An elephant walked through our campsite that day! You can see the very large footprints on the ground leading in the direction that Julia is looking. There were a few elephants that regularly visited the campsite or walked along the river bed.
This is a Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill that visited the campsite a few times. They are about 50 - 60cm long and eat seeds and small insects.
The locals call it a "flying banana" because of the colour and shape of its beak!
